THE SWAN SHORT FILM AWARDS 2023
Who Can Enter
A free to enter competition for amateur/non commercial filmmakers - that is individuals or groups who do not make films professionally as a business. Only ONE FILM per entrant.
Running Time and Categories
Ten minutes maximum including credits. Any category - drama, documentary, animation, music video, nature, experimental, etc. Foreign language entries should have English subtitles.
Key Dates
Open for entries 3rd February 2023. DO NOT SEND ENTRIES ON FILES BEFORE THIS DATE AS THEY WILL NOT BE PROCESSED. Closing date March 17th 2023. Final round judging and screening evening April 28th 2023.
How to enter
An MP4 file (no other file formats please) by We Transfer to [email protected] Plus by a separate email (essential): - entrant's name, film title and running time.
Or by sending a standard DVD (not Blue Ray) to - Competition Manager,
61 Greenfields Drive, Little Neston, Neston CH64 0UL. Please include email address. (Only one film on disc please. Postal entries may be sent before 3rd February provided package will fit a standard domestic letter box. Discs will not be returned unless a pre-paid envelope is provided.)
First Round Judging
An independent judge will view all the entries then:-
a) select a Short List of the best films,
b) select the Best Film overall and
c) write a short Critique of the best film.
Second Round Judging
Other judges will view the short listed films and select the film that has:-
Best story/script - the Ray Dunbobbin Award.
Best directing.
Best film with a Transport Theme - The Angus Tilston Award.
Screening Evening
The short listed films will be screened (in random order) at the Swan Movie Makers' Club Night on Friday April 28th 2023. The award winning films will be announced plus the Best Film by audience vote. Awards will take the form of certificates plus judges' comments. Notification will be by email. Any entrants wishing to attend the award evening would be most welcome to come and join us.
